Some stories are best told from a single viewpoint. Others need a journey. WAYFINDER™ is Simtec’s track-guided dark ride system for attractions that unfold as guests move through them. Its physically defined route creates a reliable framework for the entire experience. Simtec integrates the vehicles, track, and control architecture as one system, allowing position, viewing direction, and scene timing to be composed around every point of the route.
The track does more than determine where the vehicle goes. It creates a strong foundation for dynamic acceleration and optional cabin motion. Vehicles can build pace along the route, rotate toward a reveal, or add multi-axis movement where the story calls for greater physical impact. The result is a precisely composed journey in which vehicle movement, show technology, and storytelling work as one experience.
WAYFINDER™ can operate with individual ride vehicles or trains of linked vehicles. Vehicle capacity and group experience are shaped around the attraction concept and operational targets.
Cabin rotation separates the direction of travel from the direction of attention. Guests can be turned toward a hidden set, an interactive scene, or a precisely timed reveal, giving creative teams direct control over how each scene enters the story.
From focused cabin movement to full multi-axis motion, WAYFINDER™ adds a physical layer to the journey. Cabin motion can intensify action, shape transitions, and give individual scenes their own distinct character.
When configured as an interactive dark ride, guests become active participants in the journey rather than passive observers. Individual or team-based challenges, quizzes, scoring, and onboard feedback can be combined with guest actions that trigger media, lighting, sound or physical effects, or activate elements within the scenery.

WAYFINDER™ uses the defined route as an integral part of its track-based ride architecture. It creates one reliable spatial reference for vehicle movement, cabin orientation, and show control. Every scene can therefore be developed around known vehicle positions and viewing directions. Speed, rotation, media cues, and effects can be tuned as one coordinated sequence, while the control architecture can respond to guest interactions with synchronized media, scenic or physical reactions.
Building on these defined vehicle positions and system states, the control architecture coordinates vehicle movement with onboard and offboard show action equipment. It also supports transparent monitoring, direct diagnostics, straightforward maintenance, and dependable daily operation.
Where the attraction concept calls for additional dynamics, the track also provides a stable foundation for acceleration and configurable cabin motion. The underlying principle remains the same: engineering the route so that technology, movement, and show work together with greater purpose.
For WAYFINDER™, custom engineering begins with the journey itself. The route is developed together with the scene sequence, intended viewpoints, and vehicle behavior. Simtec then translates this concept into a track layout that fits the building, access strategy, and operational requirements while preserving the intended pace of the experience.
The vehicle concept is developed around the same requirements. WAYFINDER™ can use individual vehicles or multiple vehicles linked as a train, while passenger capacity, cabin layout, and vehicle spacing are aligned with throughput targets and the scale of the attraction. Custom-designed and themed vehicle bodies allow the ride system to become an integral part of the attraction world rather than remain visible as a generic technical carrier.
The physical character of the experience is defined project by project. Vehicle dynamics, cabin rotation, additional motion, and the level of interactivity are selected for their intended role within the attraction concept. Technology follows the story and the intended guest experience — not the other way around.
For turnkey projects, Simtec brings the complete technical attraction together within one coordinated system architecture. Ride technology, show control, AV, special effects, and interactive systems are integrated with media, gameplay, and other interactive content developed by selected specialist partners. From the route through the building to the final show sequence, every element is designed to work as part of one coherent experience.
