When Wanda Movie Park in Wuhan, China, set out to create a groundbreaking indoor theme park experience, they needed an engineering partner capable of translating unprecedented creative visions into a safe, high-throughput reality. The park sought an attraction that could push the limits of guest immersion while seamlessly accommodating extreme visitor volumes every day. Simtec Systems accepted the challenge, deploying its deep multi-disciplinary custom engineering capabilities to conceptualize, design, and manufacture an open cabin simulator (OCS) platform of colossal proportions. To meet the park’s operational demands, Simtec engineered the FUNRIDE® 96—one of the world’s largest open cabin motion simulator ride systems at the time. Capable of carrying nearly one hundred passengers simultaneously on a single dynamic motion base, the installation solved the crucial challenge of balancing massive guest capacity with ultra-high fidelity motion tracking.
To deliver an unforgettable adrenaline rush, the attraction immerses guests in a raw, large-scale encounter with the destructive powers of nature. Simtec’s heavy-duty multi-axis simulation platform was synchronized with absolute mathematical precision to a giant curved projection screen, placing every passenger directly in the center of cataclysmic events. Guests experience the visceral forces of catastrophic earthquakes, erupting volcanoes, raging typhoons, and towering tsunamis unfolding around them in real time. Rather than relying solely on screen visuals, Simtec integrated a full array of physical 4D special effects into the cabin architecture. By harmonizing dynamic pitch, roll, and heave motions with targeted wind streams, water spray, seat vibrations, and ambient environmental effects, the system triggers deep sensory responses, turning a large 96-person audience into an intimately immersed collective.
