Custom Ride Engineering

Custom Ride Systems: We Bring Bold Ideas to Life

Some attraction ideas fit a proven ride platform. Others demand a system of their own. Simtec develops project-specific ride systems for concepts where the intended experience, movement, spatial conditions, or operational requirements call for a different technical architecture.

Built Around Your Idea

The most ambitious attraction concepts do not always fit an existing ride format. They may demand a new way of moving guests, a ride architecture shaped around a challenging venue, or a combination of functions that has never been brought together in this form before.

That is where a custom ride begins. Simtec develops the ride architecture around the specific needs of the attraction — shaping movement, passenger handling, system behavior, and technical integration into one purpose-built solution.

Creative Freedom, Engineered

Ambitious concepts do not have to be reduced to fit an existing ride format. Simtec translates creative intent into a technically viable ride system without losing sight of what makes the idea distinctive.

Motion Without a Template

From custom kinematics to combined movement functions, the motion architecture is developed around the physical behavior the attraction needs — not selected from a predefined catalogue.

Complexity Under Control

Vehicle, motion, controls, safety and attraction interfaces are engineered as one system, allowing unconventional concepts to remain controllable, predictable and operable.

Built for More Than Opening Day

Custom does not mean experimental. Simtec develops one-off ride systems with the same focus on safety, reliability, maintainability and long-term operation as its proven product platforms.

Engineering the Ride Around the Concept

Great custom ride engineering starts by assessing technical feasibility and with understanding what the attraction needs to achieve physically. How should guests be moved? What kind of dynamics should they feel? How should motion work with scenery, media, and the timing of the show? And what does the system have to deliver cycle after cycle in daily operation?
From there, the ride architecture takes shape. The venue sets the physical framework, while capacity and guest flow influence the passenger system. The intended movement then determines the kinematics and motion behavior. These elements cannot be developed in isolation. They have to work together as one technical concept from the start.

A compelling ride experience depends on more than motion alone. Vehicle behavior, visual content, physical scenery, sound, and effects need to reinforce one another rather than compete for attention. Simtec can evaluate preliminary media and motion concepts early in development, helping creative and technical teams refine timing, synchronization and perceived movement before key decisions become difficult or costly to change.
Simtec brings more than 35 years of experience in professional flight simulation and automotive test systems to this process, adding another level of precision to how motion is engineered. Acceleration, rhythm, transitions, and motion texture are shaped deliberately to create movement that feels convincing, purposeful, and physically connected to what guests see and hear.
This is Motion That Feels Right — engineering that gives creative ideas physical impact while keeping the complete ride system controlled, reliable, and ready for real-world operation.

Custom Ride System Architecture

Every custom ride system is developed around the attraction it serves. Depending on the concept, its architecture can combine project-specific passenger systems, movement concepts, control and safety functions, and interfaces to the surrounding attraction.

Passenger & Vehicle Concept

Vehicle, Cabin or Passenger Platform

Developed around the intended ride concept, passenger capacity, and the way guests need to be carried through the experience

Passenger Configuration

Seated or standing passenger configurations are developed around the required movement, accessibility, and operational concept

Boarding & Unloading

Access, loading, and unloading are integrated into the ride architecture to support efficient guest flow and a smooth operational sequence

Project-Specific Access Systems

Where required, docking systems or retractable bridges connect the stationary venue to moving ride elements

Movement & Kinematics

Custom Kinematics

Project-specific kinematics are developed when the attraction requires movement beyond the possibilities of an existing ride architecture

Combined Movement Functions

Track movement, positioning, rotation, and multi-axis motion can be combined within one coordinated ride concept

Motion Envelope

Movement ranges are developed within the physical boundaries of the venue while supporting the dynamics and spatial behavior required by the attraction

Motion Programming & Motion Texture

Timing, acceleration, transitions, and motion texture shape how movement is perceived and how convincingly it supports the intended experience

Ride Control & Safety

Ride & Motion Control

Movement functions, operating sequences, and ride states are coordinated within one integrated control architecture

Passenger & Station Logic

Loading, unloading, passenger access, and movement sequences are incorporated into the overall ride control concept

Safety Architecture

Safety functions, monitoring, and defined safe states are developed around the specific movement, passenger system, and operating concept

Operator Interfaces & Diagnostics

Operator systems provide clear control over daily ride operation, system status, and technical diagnostics

Attraction Integration

Building & Scenic Integration

The ride architecture is developed around the venue, physical sets, and the space available for movement, access, and technical infrastructure.

AV & Media Integration

Projection or LED systems, media servers, and audio can be integrated with the ride architecture, so visual, acoustic, and physical elements work together as one attraction experience

Theming Integration

Ride vehicles, cabins, passenger platforms, and surrounding technical elements can be integrated into the attraction’s themed environment, with the required interfaces considered early in the system design

Special Effects Integration

Wind, water, scent, vibration, and other physical effects can be synchronized with ride movement and show timing where they support the attraction concept.
